Another Letter Basket in our series of Tot School Curriculum and Letter baskets!

Starting Tot school or preschool with your little one can be very daunting, especially when it comes to deciding what is the best curriculum to use. This curriculum is a combination of Montessori and classical education. If this sounds like something that interests you, keep reading!
I have more information on the style behind this curriculum style, read my post introducing the curriculum series here!
Tot School Curriculum – Letter Basket C
Letter Baskets are designed to do a focus study on one letter at a time. You can choose to complete a letter basket in two days or two weeks! Whatever works best for you and your child and whatever pace they need to fully grasp the letter and concepts.
In this unit we will be learning skills such as:
- Letter name and sound
- Fine motor skills
- Sensory play
- Tracing
- Capital and Lowercase recognition
- Animal facts
- and so much more!
However, we can’t have too many activities, can we? In this post I’m going to be sharing some extra activities that you can do with this letter basket unit!
Letter Basket C Extra Activities
#1 The Hungry Caterpillar Painting
Materials:
Sponges
Paint
Paint Brushes
Paint Paper
Pencil
Optional: caterpillar toys
Draw the hungry caterpillar for your child to fill in with paint. You can use the sponges to paint, or paint brushes, or just your fingers! Another fun way my kids love to paint is using toy animals. For example, using toy bugs to paint on letter “B” for bugs. You could use a toy caterpillar to paint on your caterpillar!
#2 Cat Craft
Materials:
Paper plate
Paint
Googly Eyes
Pipe Cleaners
Felt
Paint Brushes
Lets make a cat craft! First pick your color for your cat. Paint the plate all over with the color(s) you want! Next, place the googly eyes. Use felt for the nose and the ears. Use your pipe cleaners to make whiskers. Hang up your kitten and enjoy!
#3 Learn About Other Cats
Take a trip to the library to get some books about lions, tigers, cougars, bobcat, leopards, or whatever other wild cats you would like. Read the books with your child talking about how these are animals are also cats just like the domestic house cat.
#4 Caterpillar Playdough
Materials:
Lots of colors of playdough
Playdough toys (optional)
Using a variety of different colors, you can create the different fruits from the very hungry caterpillar story with the playdough. You can also make the hungry the caterpillar and act out the story. You can make these with your child or make them separately and use them as a play set up or “invitation to play!”
I hope these activities can help give some extra activities that can be done with this curriculum and how you can go deeper into learning with your child or just spend more time together playing and having fun!
